What is Yacht?
Every roll has a home. Pick the right one.
Yacht is a dice game about making the most of every roll. Each turn you roll five dice up to three times, holding the ones you like, then score the result in one of twelve boxes on your sheet.
Every box is used exactly once, so the game is a puzzle as much as a gamble. Take 24 in Sixes now, or hold out for a Yacht? Spend a weak roll on Ones, or take a zero somewhere you can afford it?

- Ones to Sixes: add up the dice showing that number.
- Full House (three of one number, two of another) and Choice (anything) score the total of all five dice.
- Four of a Kind: the total of the four matching dice.
- Little Straight (1–5) and Big Straight (2–6) = 30. Yacht (five of a kind) = 50.
- If the dice do not fit the box you pick, it scores 0.

A little history
The classic behind the boxed games.
Yacht is a traditional dice game that has been played for generations. It belongs to a big family of five-dice games, cousins of poker dice, where you roll for combinations and fill in a score sheet.
Generala in Latin America plays the same way, and many of the boxed family dice games sold today grew out of the same idea. That is why Yacht feels familiar the first time you play it.
Fun facts
- There are twelve boxes and each is used exactly once, so a game is twelve turns.
- Full House and Choice score the total of all five dice. Four of a Kind scores just the four matching dice.
- Five of a kind is a Yacht, not a Full House.
- A perfect sheet scores 297.
Why people love it
Simple turns. Real decisions.
Learn it in one turn.
Roll, hold, roll again, pick a box. The score sheet tells you everything else.
Luck you can steer.
You choose what to hold and where to score, so good play beats bad luck over twelve rounds.
Everyone has a sheet.
You can play side by side with any number of people, or alone against your best score.
The Yacht moment.
Five of a kind gets a cheer from the whole table, every time.
How to play
Roll. Hold. Score.
Setup
- Players: one or more, each with their own score sheet.
- Dice: five standard six-sided dice.
- Who starts: anyone. Play moves clockwise, one turn each per round.
- Length: twelve rounds, one for each box on the sheet.
Winning
When every sheet is full, the highest total wins. A tie goes to the player with more in Yacht, then more in Choice. Still tied? Share the win.
- 1
Roll all five
Start your turn by rolling all five dice.
- 2
Hold and reroll
Set aside any dice you like and reroll the rest. You get up to three rolls in all, and you can hold different dice each time.
- 3
Score one box
Pick one empty box and write in what the dice score there. Your turn is over.
- 4
Yacht
All five dice the same is a Yacht, the best box on the sheet: 50 points.
- 5
Take a zero
If the dice do not fit any box you want, you still have to fill one. It scores 0.
These are our Classic rules, and they'll be shown in every room before the game starts. There are no bonus points: every box scores just what is on the sheet. Printable rules card →

The number boxes
Your dice show 4, 4, 4, 2, 6. What do they score in the Fours box?
Scoring
Twelve boxes. Fill every one.
The six number boxes count only the dice showing that number. The other six boxes need a pattern, and score 0 when the dice do not make it.
| Box | Looks like | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Ones (two 1s) | 2 | |
| Fours (three 4s) | 12 | |
| Sixes (four 6s) | 24 | |
| Full House | 22 | |
| Four of a Kind | 20 | |
| Little Straight | 30 | |
| Big Straight | 30 | |
| Choice | 23 | |
| Yacht | 50 |
Our rules: Full House and Choice score the total of all five dice. Four of a Kind scores just the four matching dice. Five of a kind is a Yacht, not a Full House. A perfect sheet is 297.
Strategy
Play it smart. Then play it feral.
Tip 1
Hold the dice you have the most of.
A pair or three of a kind is the start of Fours, Full House, Four of a Kind, and the Yacht all at once.
Tip 2
Never waste a free roll.
Holding four of a kind? Roll the fifth die. Your four still score whatever it shows, and it might be a Yacht.
Tip 3
Choice is your safety net.
Save it for a roll with a big total that fits nowhere else. Most turns aimed at Choice land around 23.
Tip 4
Plan your zeros.
Every box gets filled. When a turn goes badly, spend it on Ones or Twos, or on the Yacht late in the game.
Tip 5
Straights need runs, not pairs.
Holding 2, 3, 4, 5 means a 1 or a 6 finishes a straight: better than half the time over two rolls.
What would you do?
One decision. Every day.
A new Yacht puzzle every day, the same for everyone. Solve it, then send it to the group chat and see who gets it right.
